Mars Base 10 – hybrid structure outpost

May 2008-2015
Author: Ondrej Doule (originates at NASA Ames Research Center, proposed as an analogue system for simulation in terrestrial desert environment)

Mars base 10 is designed as a permanent settlement on Mars for 10 astronauts. This Class II base is equipped with all necessary subsystems including large greenhouses with bio-regenerative ECLSS and an ISRU processing laboratory to provide a fully autonomous habitat. The base is divided in 3 levels according to base operations. The base was designed as a single payload for one heavy lift launcher such as Ares V (136 tons to LEO). A detailed analysis of the mission strategy and landing site selection was performed prior to the architectural design of the base. The Olympus Mons Western Scarp was chosen as most appropriate for the MB10 mission with scientific goals.
